About Michelle. Grow Your Own Way…

Michelle Cadena - Sunshine Horticulture ColoradoHi, I am so glad you are here! I want to connect people with horticulture, gardening, landscape design and all the facets of growing things green. Come along with me on an adventure out to near (Colorado) and far(m) places and to explore our living horticultural world around us. The garden has taught me so much as a hobby, and served therapeutic value along with my career of over 18 years in Colorado (what?!:). I would like you to come along with me on my journey of showing you the ‘New and The Tried and True’.

I started growing things when I was just a little girl on the farm in the beautiful rolling hills of North Central Kansas. Growing fresh tomatoes, cucumber, potatoes, squash, beans, corn, peppers, onions, carrots, etc. not just because they tasted fresh & delicious. It was also because they had a purpose, to get us through the winters. We canned in the fall with the surrounding farm families forming community of babysitters and life long family friends. There were also trips to town, about 6 miles from the small town of Clay Center, KS. In town and usually on a Saturday, after the trip to the Tasty Pastry (more on that later:).  My mom and I would head to the local hardware store, where there were big displays of wooden seed bins to fill paper bags with seed to go home and put in the ground. These trips would also include to the local greenhouse to buy a few flowers for our containers and a few for the yard, depending on the season.  I loved the smell of those greenhouses, like the earth on a rainy day, full of pansies and then petunias. With the sage advise from my sweet, ambitious, god-fearing, hardworking mother and the stories of my grannies, along with the local growers and plants people in Colorado.  I want to explore with you a wide world of horticulture. Whether you grew up in rural farm country to the patio garden of the urban city. Around nurseries and garden centers and ALL THOSE WHO LOVE TO GARDEN. Please come along with me on my journey of explorations of the different facets of from Abelia & Arbors to Zebra grasses and Zelkova and everything in between.

I hope to bring some new information some and old enlightenment to the farmers table and ‘Shine a light on the NEW and the Tried and True’. Please take a moment to leave a comment too, I would love to hear from you. You may email me if you would like at michelle@sunshinehort.com.

Thanks so much for visiting! Michelle Cadena, owner, Sunshine Horticulture, LLC 🙂
